Zambia has developed a multisectoral plan to combat Antimicrobial Resistance because some diseases have developed resistance to common antimicrobial drugs.
Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya says
Antimicrobial Resistance is an emerging public health threat, that calls for concerted efforts to curb.
Dr. Chilufya says Zambia and many other countries have already recorded multi drug resistant Tuberculosis and drug resistant strains of pathogens that cause common ailments.
The Minister said this today during the bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switerzaland.
Dr Chilufya said pharmacists can help reverse the threat of Antimicrobial Resistance by stopping to dispense antibiotics over the counter without valid prescriptions.
Ambassador for Global Health Anders Nordstrom called for rational use of antibiotics.
