Swedish Ambassador for Global Health Anders Nordstrom has congratulated Zambia on its programme to strengthen reproductive health and safeguarding sexual and reproductive health rights.
Mr Nordstrom said this today during the bilateral meeting with Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya on the sidelines of the 71st  World Health Assembly Geneva, Switerzaland.
He said it is gratifying that Zambia is providing leadership in the execution of multisectoral based health reforms including introduction of comprehensive sexuality education.
Dr. Chilufya thanked the Swedish government for supporting health system strengthening and reproductive and maternal child health services.
He said early dividends have been posted in the campaign to accelerate maternal death reduction.
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency is working with the Ministry of Health in implementing a US$40 million project in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Adolescent and Child health.
The programme has seen more ten maternity annexes constructed, more than 70 combined utility vehicles and ambulances procured.
Further, more than 50 midwives have employed and deployed to various facilities in southern and eastern provinces.
